Turquoise can be found in the Americas, Egypt, ancient Persia (Iran), Tibet and China. The stone has been revered and admired for its beauty and spiritual qualities for millennium. The oldest known piece, a bracelet, was found on a 7000-year-old mummy. The Cerrillos turquoise mine is the oldest on the North American continent. It is located just south of Santa Fe, NM and dates back at least 2000 years. The Pueblos dug deep in to the ground using antlers and stone mauls to get the precious turquoise. Sacred to the Pueblos and Navajos, it symbolizes supreme life giving and healing powers of the Creator. It takes its color from the sky.
